Chinese Translation
The Chinese language
Some form of Chinese is spoken as a native language by over 1 billion people across the world. Mandarin, Wu, Min, Cantonese and Xiang are several different regional groups of Chinese with Mandarin being the most popular type, spoken by approximately 850 million people. Standard Mandarin is based on the Beijing dialect and as well as being one of the official languages of the United Nations, it is also one of the four official languages of Singapore. The Chinese script is written in characters known as hanzi. In spoken Chinese, words can be made up of several symbols with a separate character with its own meaning, representing each syllable. In Chinese script, there are no spaces between characters and therefore, the meaning, pronunciation and grouping of characters must be worked out.
