Urdu Typesetting

Linguaset has the experience, skills and specialist software required to tackle any Urdu typesetting project.

Typesetting in Urdu is much more challenging than typesetting European languages, it is of course written from right to left, and Urdu books are read from back to front (from an English point of view). This means that artwork which is created in English needs to be completely reversed, with all of the page elements moving to the opposite side and also the pages themselves re-imposed so that the publication reads correctly for an Urdu speaker.

We can take any English publication and translate it into Urdu , then, after careful proofreading, we can typeset the document, reversing the artwork where necessary and re-imposing multi-page documents to create a correct-reading Urdu version. Delivery would normally be by High resolution PDF, though we can just as easily provide Illustrator or EPS files, with all of the Urdu text outlined, which eliminates any possible problems with missing fonts. We can also deliver the job as an InDesign or Quark document, again with outlined Urdu text in position.

Speed and response

Because we do all of our Urdu typesetting in-house (which is very unusual in the language industry) we are able to respond very quickly to the inevitable author's amendments which arise with any typesetting work! We nearly always deliver small corrections to typeset jobs within a few hours, or even immediately if asked. We have a very high speed internet connection and our clients can download their Urdu artwork files from a secure ftp server at a speed of 50Mb/sec (if their connection is fast enough).

Technological infrastructure

We also have the hardware infrastructure necessary to give a fast and reliable service to our clients. All clients' Urdu typesetting work is held on a redundant RAID 5 disc cluster, with continuous on-line backup. This means that we can retrieve any file even if it was accidentally deleted from the main server. We also provide white-label hosting of Urdu websites, or indeed websites in any language, which we are localising for our agency clients, so that their clients can view sites which are under development, remaining unaware of our involvement in the localisation process.

Most of our customers for quality Urdu typesetting and translation are major advertising agencies and design houses. We have many samples of brochures, press advertisements and HTML mailers.
